Goodbye to Old Games with PS4

Goodbye to Old Games with PS4

Sony executive Masayusu Ito finally answered the question that has been on everyone's mind. Stating that this decision was reached after a long and difficult process, Ito said that there will be no backward compatibility in the new Playstation 4s; meaning games developed for PS3 will not be playable on PS4. System architect Mark Cerny points to the X86 architecture as the main reason for this. If they wanted to ensure backward compatibility with PS3, they would have had to include the chip named CELL; which would mean a major obstacle for game developers. In other words, Sony prioritized the future over backward compatibility and sacrificed all PS3 games for the sake of making new games developed for PS4 higher quality and more accessible. While it has been announced that games like Assassin's Creed: Black Flag will also be developed for PS4; the negative effects of this decision seem to be erased in the near future.
